A VISION FOR COLLINGWOOD

IN
PICTURES.

Every image from the Vision, with what each one actually is.

34 of these are concepts, not plans.

The Vision describes its own images as a way to make ideas visible — conversation starters, something people can react to, challenge, improve and imagine before a final plan exists. They are not approved designs, engineering drawings, costed commitments, or promises that anything will be built exactly as shown. Every picture is labelled with what it is. None of them is a photograph of Collingwood as it stands today — if one is ever added here, it will say so.

  • The harbour peninsula from the air

    Terminals / Millennium Park

The peninsula at golden hour with the grain terminals left standing, and a low waterfront building running along the water's edge toward them. The Vision also puts this forward as one of four sites to test for the Arts, Culture and Events Centre, and says access, servicing, traffic, parking and the future of the terminals would all have to be resolved.

  • The marina hub from the street

A marina office and service building at the foot of the harbour road, with the grain terminals rising directly behind it.

  • Harbour House and the waterfront street

A waterfront streetscape — a row of harbour-front buildings, a boardwalk beside them and the terminals closing the view at the end of the road.

  • The promenade at the Harbour Table

Patio dining spilling onto a wide boardwalk, with the boat slips on one side and the grain elevator standing over the far end.

  • The harbour amphitheatre

An outdoor amphitheatre and plaza beside the grain elevator, set up for a concert at sunset with the bay behind the stage.

  • The Shipyard Market from the road

The long industrial shed that would hold the Shipyard Market, seen from the street with its name and an anchor across the end wall.

  • Inside the Shipyard Market

The main hall from the mezzanine: food stalls down both sides, a live band on the end stage and communal tables filling the floor.

  • Dockside Kitchen and the stall row

The market at ground level, with the Dockside Kitchen and Harbour Pantry counters trading under the old roof trusses.

  • The propeller kept in the hall

A ship's propeller kept as a centrepiece on the market floor, with the Fresh Catch counter and the bakery beside it.

  • The events centre on the Eddie Bush block

140 Ste. Marie / Eddie Bush block

A lit marquee and a queue on the corner. One of four sites the Vision puts up for the same test — it says the goal is not to pre-select a winner. Earlier feasibility work identified the adjacent parking area for further study.

  • The events centre at 45 St Paul Street

45 St Paul St, Collingwood, ON L9Y 3P1

The heritage brick tower kept and built onto rather than replaced, at sunset. One of four sites the Vision puts up for the same test — it says the goal is not to pre-select a winner.

  • The events centre on the Giant Tiger block

190 Ste. Marie / Giant Tiger area

A corner frontage on Ste. Marie Street, with THEATRE, MUSIC, ART and COMMUNITY set into the face of the building. The Vision calls this one a redevelopment concept to investigate and says plainly that it is not a confirmed public shortlist site.
